Paltalk for Beginners: Rooms 101

The next step in your Paltalk journey is learning the ins and outs of chat rooms.

Chat rooms provide a public place to share your interests and meet people organically, without the pressure of face-to-face interactions. When joining a room, relax and remember: here, you can be whomever you want.

When you find a conversation that interests you, you can participate in several ways. Text chat with the whole room by typing in the bar at the bottom of your screen, or with particular members in a room by whispering to them.

Audio chat with the whole room by clicking the microphone to speak. If there is a queue for the mic, don’t jump the line! Raise your hand to indicate you’d like to join the queue and then wait for your turn. You can use this time to outline your thoughts and plan what you are going to say (or play) on the mic.

Video chat to the whole room by turning on your video and speaking into the mic. Again, you might need to wait in the queue. If other room members see you are on cam as well as on mic, you are more likely to get views.

No matter how you choose to chat, be sure to follow the rules and ratings of the rooms you enter, and practice good chat room etiquette to make the best impression. Think of the people you meet as new neighbors: some have been here for a while, some just moved in like you, but everyone has a certain ownership of the place you are sharing. Treat it with respect and you’ll have a great time.
